Accessing our Short-Term Counselling Services:

The Great Northern Family Health Team does not provide crisis services. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact the Canadian Mental Health Association: Cochrane-Timiskaming at 705-647-4444 or visit your nearest Emergency Department.

Once a referral is received or if you contact our office directly, we will schedule an Intake Consultation appointment. Physician referral is no longer required.

The appointment is a 30-minute screening appointment to assess your primary concern and identify which resources best meet your current needs and make referrals as deemed appropriate, while also ensuring your needs can be addressed within our scope of practice.  This is not a counselling appointment. The wait time after this appointment is based on urgency of need.

The length and type of counselling services provided will depend on the nature of the presenting issue, however typically a maximum of 8 sessions. We may also refer you to other community resources where appropriate.
